- New Jersey ’s nearly
5,000 food and beverage manufacturers and wholesalers
combined for over $50 billion in sales in 2002, making it
one of the strongest manufacturing sectors in the state.
- Food exports from New
Jersey exceed $1 billion annually. Markets showing the
largest export growth are Canada ($4.8 billion, 23% growth),
followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and Mexico.
- Food research and
development is carried out at the Center for Advanced Food
Technology and the Food Innovation Research and Extension
Center, both located at Rutgers University.
- The Food Policy
Institute, New Jersey Food Processors Association, New
Jersey Food Council, New Jersey Department of Agriculture,
and New Jersey Food Industry Alliance all work to strengthen
the food-processing industry, including developing new
markets, both domestically and abroad.
